Liofilchem STUART Transport Medium Culture Media 610182 is a Liofilchem microbiology product supplied by Kormay Biomedicals. Its practical role is sTUART TRANSPORT MEDIUM is a semisolid, nonnutritive medium used for the transport of specimens of clinical source to the laboratory. Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Trichomonas vaginalis can live on Stuart Transport Medium without proliferating for up to 24 hours, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes and Corynebacterium diphteriae for up to 5 days. However, as a general rule, it is better to subject all the specimens to microbiological analysis as soon as possible.

Sample handling workflow

  • Procedure: To transport specimens, insert a third of the swab with which the material has been collected into the center of the medium: then cut the rod and screw the test-tube stopper down to clamp the swab. Keep the test-tube in a refrigerator until dispatch.

  • Formula / composition: (g/l) Sodium Glycerophosphate 10.0 Sodium Thioglycollate 1.0 Calcium Chloride 0.1 Methylene Blue 0.002 Agar 3.0 Final pH = 7.3 ± 0.2 at 25 °C. DIRECTIONS Suspend 14.1 g of powder in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water. Heat to boiling with frequent agitation and distribute into 5 ml screw-capped vials filling each vial almost to the top. Sterilized in autoclave with caps loose, at 121°C for 10 minutes. Then screw caps on tightly, and cool vials rapidly.
