Liofilchem Sabouraud CAF Agar + ACTIDIONE Culture Media 610179 is a Liofilchem microbiology product supplied by Kormay Biomedicals. Its practical role is sabouraud CAF Agar + Actidione is a highly selective medium used for the isolation and maintenance of fungi, including dermatophytes,from clinical specimens or materials with mixed flora.

Use case and sample types
In susceptibility testing, the consumable is only useful when the inoculum, medium, incubation, reading endpoint, and interpretive system are controlled together. The lab should treat the result as a method output, not as a standalone product property.
Decision criteria after incubation
Examine the plates for fungal colonies exhibiting typical color and morphology. Biochemical tests and serological procedures should be performed to confirm findings.
Method logic
Papaic digest of soybean meal provides amino acids, carbon, nitrogen, vitamins and minerals. Glucose is an energy source. Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic inhibitory to a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Cycloheximide suppresses the growth of saprophytic fungi. Agar is the solidifying agent.
Preparation and execution notes
- Preparation: Suspend 35.5 g of powder in 1 liter of distilled water. Mix well and dissolve by heating with frequent agitation. Sterilize in autoclave at 118°C for 15 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C before distributing into Petri dishes.
- Procedure: Streak the specimen directly over the agar surface. Incubate aerobically at 25-30°C for 2-7 days. Note:Streak the specimen as soon as possible after it is received in the laboratory For isolation of fungi causing systemic mycoses, two sets of plates should be inoculated, one set incubated at 25-30°C and the other one at 35 ± 2°C.To provide an indication of all pathogens present in the specimen, two other media might be inoculated as well, such as Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (ref. 10035) and Columbia Sheep Blood (ref. 11025).
