Bismuth Glucose Glycine Yeast (BiGGY) Agar is a medium developed by Nickerson for the differentiation of Candida spp. on the basis of morphology and pigmentation of colonies and, in some cases, pigmentation in the surrounding medium. TYPICAL FORMULA* (g/litre) Yeast Extract 1.0 Bismuth Ammonium Citrate 5.0 Sodium Sulphite 3.0 Glucose 10.0 Glycine 10.0 Agar 18.0 Final pH 6.8 ± 0.2 at 25°C *Adjusted and/or supplemented as required to meet performance specifications. METHOD PRINCIPLE Yeast extract provide amino acids, nitrogen, carbon, vitamins and minerals for organisms growth.
