Buffered Yeast Extract (BYE) Broth is used for cultivating members of the Legionella genus, which require cysteine and iron to thrive.
This medium is the charcoal-free broth version of Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract (BCYE) agar, which is recommended by ISO 11731 for enumeration of Legionellae in water samples.
