The medium contains a variety of proteic substrates derived from enzymatic digestion, inorganic salts and other nutrients which satisfy nutritional requirements of these microorganisms. Crystal violet and bile salts inhibit Gram-positive cocci while Ticarcillin, Polymyxin B and Gentamicin inhibit also Gram-negative.
