ChromaticTM OXA-48- Rev.1 / 23.05.2017. . Description. ChromaticTM OXA-48 is a selective chromogenic medium used for the isolation of OXA-48 type carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. The OXA-48 carbapenemase hydrolyses penicillins at a high level and carbapenems at a low level, possesses poor activity against broad-spectrum cephalosporins and is not susceptible to β-lactamase inhibitors. Its frequent association with ESBL and permeability defects increase the level of resistance to carbapenem. The difficulties linked to the detection of OXA-48 producers have played a significant role in their spread, which has been somehow silent.
