Peptones provide nitrogen, carbon, amino acids and vitamins. Yeast extract and corn starch are included to supply a carbon energy source in the form of B-complex vitamins. Sodium Chloride maintains the osmotic balance of the medium. Agar is the solidifying agent. Supplementation with vitalex and lysed horse blood provides additional growth factors.
