Peptone provides amino acids, nitrogen, carbon, vitamin and minerals. Maltose is a source of energy. Dextrine and glycerol are incorporated into the medium for providing carbon. Agar is the solidifying agent. The acidic pH of the medium allows for optimal growth of fungi while restricting bacterial growth.. Technique. Inoculate the medium by streak or spread technique.
