Mycoplasma Selective Broth is a liquid medium used for the detection of Ureaplasma spp. (Ureaplasma urealyticum and Ureaplasma parvum) and Mycoplasma hominis.. Principle. The medium is formulated to allow growth of mycoplasmas most commonly found in the urogenital tract while inhibiting contaminating microbial flora. Ureaplasma spp. and M. hominis metabolise urea and arginine, respectively, resulting in a colour change of the medium from yellow to red. COMPOSITION (per litre of purified water) Meat Peptone 8.0 g Urea 1.0 g Casein Peptone 8.0 g Phenol Red 0.05 g Yeast Extract 4.0 g Vitox.
