Todd Hewitt Broth is a liquid medium used for the production of antigen streptococcal hemolysin and growth of group A streptococci prior to serological typing.. Preparation. Dehydrated medium Suspend 36.4 g of the powder in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water. Heat to boil shaking frequently until completely dissolved. Sterilize in autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes. TEST PROCEDURE Inoculate Todd Hewitt Broth with the throat swab specimen or with pure cultures of streptococci. Incubate at 35 ± 2°C for 2-5 hours in aerobic atmosphere with or without 5-10% CO. Incubation may be extended.
